Bosch increases innovation, cooperation and M&A - cost reduction remains the focus

FY2023: Development of each business area

Smart Mobility sales increased by 6.9% to €56.2 billion, or 10.9% after adjusting for exchange rate effects, with an EBIT margin of 4.4% (2022: 3.4%). Industrial Technology sales increased by 6.8% to €7.4 billion, or 10.2% after adjusting for exchange rate effects, thanks to the initial integration of the acquisitions of HydraForce and Elmo Motion Control. The EBIT margin remained at 9.1% (2022: 9.8%). Consumer Goods sales fell by 6.6% to €19.9 billion, or slightly by 1.2% after adjusting for exchange rate effects. The EBIT margin was 4.5%, the same as the previous year. Energy and Building Technology sales increased by 10.5% to €7.7 billion, or 13.2% after adjusting for exchange rate effects. The EBIT margin was 9% (2022: 6%).

FY2023: Business development by region

Bosch China: Deepening local presence and driving innovation and sustainable development

Despite the impact of market changes, industrial changes and intensified competition, Bosch's business in the Chinese market continued to grow in 2023, reaching 139 billion yuan (about 18.2 billion euros), a year-on-year increase of 5.2%. Among them, the smart travel business has become the main growth engine, and its sales in China have increased by 8.2%, reaching 112.1 billion yuan (about 14.6 billion euros). Dr. Xu Daquan, President of Bosch China, said: "China is not only a huge consumer market, but also an important innovation base. The steady performance growth provides a solid foundation for Bosch to continue to deepen local innovation and layout in China." Over the past decade, Bosch has invested more than 50 billion yuan in China. As of the end of 2023, Bosch has 34 production bases and 26 technology centers in China, with nearly 58,000 employees. China is Bosch's market with the largest number of employees outside of Germany, including more than 10,000 R&D personnel. In 2023 alone, Bosch's R&D expenses in China reached 11 billion yuan (about 1.4 billion euros). As a technology-innovative company, Bosch strives to achieve economic benefits while also taking into account the development goals of the society in which it operates. Dr. Xu Daquan added: "Bosch China will focus on growth areas such as new energy, intelligent driving, hydrogen energy, software, and artificial intelligence, adhere to technological innovation, sustainable development, and open cooperation, and actively contribute to the development of China's modern industrial system."

Fiscal Year 2023: Headcount increase of approximately 2%

As of December 31, 2023, the Bosch Group has a total of approximately 429,416 employees worldwide, an increase of 8,078 over the previous year. In 2023, all regions, including Germany, achieved an increase in the number of employees, with the largest increase in the Americas.
