Since the PD charging protocol became popular, PD chargers have been shining in the field of consumer electronics and have become the standard configuration of more and more digital products. At present, not only mobile phones and mobile power supplies have adopted PD chargers, but even switch game consoles, notebooks and other devices have also joined the PD camp, which has further expanded the market for PD chargers. The 65W USB-PD solution launched by GLP Semiconductor based on Infineon XDPS21081 has the characteristics of high efficiency and low cost, and can be widely used in Mobile PD chargers, PC adapters and other fields.

This solution is a 65W USB-PD 3.0 Type C charger with a universal input voltage range of 90~264VAC. It supports outputs of 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A and 20V/3.25A. Its peak efficiency is 93% and its standby input power is <65mW.

The core of this solution is the XDPS21081 flyback controller IC, which can meet all conditions under QR or discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operation. Not only that, the XDPS21081 can also maximize efficiency in frequency reduction mode (FRM) and burst mode (BM) to light load conditions. In short, the overall efficiency can be pushed to more than 90%, and the maximum efficiency reaches more than 93% in all loads and input linear voltage ranges.
In addition, XDPS21081 has a variety of protection functions (such as input over-voltage and under-voltage, CS pin short circuit, VCC overvoltage protection (OVP), Vout OVP, overcurrent protection (OCP), overload protection (OLP), overtemperature protection (OTP), latch enable, etc.). And the controller can develop the full functions of the power supply through various configuration features, such as propagation delay compensation for maximum power control, adaptive current limit voltage for variable output, and configurable input linear voltage for conversion between QR and FQR ZVS modes.
