On November 22, 2019, Intel China released its 2018-2019 Corporate Social Responsibility Report. Intel China has proactively released this transparent annual report every year since 2009, which comprehensively and systematically covers Intel's initiatives and achievements in technological innovation and environmental sustainability, integration of social responsibility into the supply chain, diversity and inclusive corporate culture, and social impact.
Yang Xu, Intel's global vice president and president of Intel China, said: "Globally, Intel has always adhered to its important mission of fulfilling corporate responsibility and promoting sustainable development. In the 34 years since it took root in China, Intel has always insisted on promoting sustainable development through technological innovation, integrating social responsibility into the core corporate strategy, and implementing it in every aspect of the business and the daily work of employees. Through practical actions, Intel has helped solve complex social and environmental problems and has made significant progress."
Intel Dalian Factory
Environmental sustainability: Enterprises are witnesses, participants and beneficiaries of social development and change, so Intel also requires itself to be an active contributor to social development. Among them, environmental sustainability is one of Intel's long-term focuses. In 2018, Intel Chengdu Factory recycled 70.23 million tons of water resources, with a recycling rate of more than 98.9%. The recycling rate of general industrial waste exceeded 90%, and the landfill disposal rate of hazardous waste was less than 1%. Through effective energy-saving and emission reduction projects, the factory saved more than 7 million kWh of electricity throughout the year. In the same year, Intel Dalian Factory's waste recycling rate was as high as 97%, and 15 green ecological energy-saving projects were completed, saving a total of 3.3 million kWh of electricity. In 2019, Intel's Shanghai Zizhu Office Area deployed a solar photovoltaic project on the roof of the stereo garage. This is Intel's first and largest rooftop solar photovoltaic project in China, with a designed capacity of 300 kilowatts, which can provide about 300,000 kWh of green electricity per year.
Responsible supply chain: Intel is well aware that with great industry influence comes great industry responsibility. Therefore, it has always worked hand in hand with suppliers and other stakeholders to focus on enhancing responsibility integration and management improvement. Through the establishment of standards, assessment audits, and capacity building, Intel and its suppliers jointly promote social responsibility practices. Due to Intel's outstanding performance in the key dimensions of responsible supply chain, it ranked first in the 2018 benchmark ranking of technology companies to eliminate forced labor in the supply chain of the "KnowTheChain" Human Unity Foundation. During the "2019 Dalian Semiconductor Industry Chain Development Summit", more than 200 domestic and foreign supplier representatives of Intel and more than 40 Dalian local and domestic semiconductor companies that are not Intel suppliers were invited to attend. Intel's relevant field experts conducted Bootcamp ("training camp") concentrated training for senior managers of 80 local suppliers, covering corporate product quality, cost management, environmental safety, corporate social responsibility, etc., effectively helping Intel suppliers to further improve management efficiency, enhance product and market competitiveness, and help more local suppliers continue to move from Dalian to the national and global semiconductor market.
Intel supports the development of female employees
Diversity and inclusion: Diversity and inclusion is one of the important trends in the development of the world today. Intel realizes that equal rights and positive empowerment are important parts of promoting social progress. In early 2019, Intel announced that it had achieved equal pay for equal work for different genders worldwide. Committed to enhancing the professional value and leadership of women, Intel has launched leadership programs and the "Technology Industry Talent Diversification" program to assist female managers and cultivate reserve talents for chief female engineers and computer scientists. As of the end of 2018, female employees accounted for 33% of Intel's Chinese employees and female managers accounted for 23%.
Intel employee volunteers participate in wetland protection for eight consecutive years
Social influence: Giving back to society requires personal action. Intel China has always encouraged and supported its employees to actively participate in volunteer activities, and cooperated with the government and social organizations in the fields of environmental protection, scientific education and community service to serve the society, so that the company can continue to convey its care for society and nature with human warmth. In 2018, more than 68,000 Intel employee volunteers around the world participated in community service, contributing about 1.5 million hours of volunteer service. In the same year, more than 8,000 Intel China volunteers contributed more than 120,000 hours of volunteer service, with a participation rate of 80%, setting a new record for Intel China's volunteer service. In Beijing, Intel employee volunteers have actively participated in the blind running event since 2016, with a total of 2,459 hours of volunteer service in 2019. In Shanghai, Intel employee volunteers have been carrying out beach cleaning activities since 2011, and have cleaned up 11 times so far, cleaning up 3.8 tons of marine debris. In Dalian, every April 2, World Autism Awareness Day, Intel employee volunteers organize large-scale theme activities to care for autism. Over the past five years, thousands of Intel employees have participated, with a total of more than 20,000 hours of volunteer service. In addition, since 2012, Intel volunteers have carried out the Yunqiao Wetland Protection Action in Chengdu, dedicated to the maintenance and improvement of facilities, the collection and organization of biodiversity data, and the development of natural reading materials. In 2019, Intel Chengdu donated money to Yunqiao Wetland to build the "Core Cloud Kangqiao" walking wooden plank road to improve the safety of daily patrols and maintenance work in the wetland.
In addition, the education and development of the next generation of talents is also one of the important social responsibility issues that Intel has always paid attention to. As the best partner recognized by the Ministry of Education of China for 24 consecutive years, Intel China empowers education with technology, adheres to the principle of "promoting learning through competitions and applying what you have learned", and provides advanced educational resources for Chinese teenagers, including: helping colleges and universities to compile AI technology course materials through the integration of industry and education, and holding various student competitions - guiding students to focus their creativity on discovering and solving practical problems in social life, and using the technology and platform specially provided by Intel for the competition to transform ideas into innovative solutions and even products; college student innovation projects, campus lectures, scholarship programs and internship programs - assisting colleges and universities in cultivating outstanding innovative talents who are suitable for the development of the knowledge economy and have first-class technical knowledge and practical ability. As of the end of 2018, more than 750 elite students from all over China have received Intel scholarships, and more than 7,000 students have carried out innovative practices and internships at Intel. Intel's senior management and technical personnel contribute more than 5,000 hours of volunteer service per year to support university cooperation projects.
Intel is in one of the most significant transformational changes in its history, with 100,000 employees around the world making great strides toward unprecedented data-centric market opportunities. Behind the strategic transformation of technological innovation and application breakthroughs is Intel's ambition to solve major challenges facing humanity and its earnest commitment to the future development of human society. In the past year, Intel was named "The 100 Most Prestigious Companies in the World in 2019", "The World's Most Reputable Companies and Most Valuable Brands" by Forbes, and "The Best Employer for Women". At the same time, Intel was also awarded the title of "The World's Most Respected Companies" by Fortune magazine, ranked among the "Top 60 Chinese Corporate Citizenship Brands in 2019", and was selected by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Tencent as one of the top 100 companies with the strongest corporate social responsibility in 2019. In the future, Intel will adhere to the long-term strategy and firm determination of "walking with China and going far", and create a better world through the power of technology and the enthusiasm of its employees.
