On October 28, according to Taiwan media reports, US presidential candidate Trump said in a recent interview that Taiwan has stolen the US chip business. If Taiwan wants US protection, it should pay protection fees!

Trump also criticized the federal subsidies that have helped prop up U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, a signature achievement of President Joe Biden. Chipmakers credit the legislation with enabling billions of dollars in new factories to be built, including in the battleground state of Arizona.

Trump said on the show: "You know, Taiwan stole our chip business. They want us to provide protection, they need protection, but they don't pay for this protection. The mafia will collect protection fees, right?"

Trump has made similar remarks in the past. In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, he questioned whether the United States should defend Taiwan. He said: "They did take away about 100% of our chip business. I think Taiwan should pay us protection fees. You know, we are no different from insurance companies. Taiwan has given us nothing."

Industry analysts said that Taiwan, especially companies such as TSMC, have occupied a pivotal position in the global semiconductor industry chain with their innovation and technological accumulation. This achievement is not based on the plunder of the US market, but is the result of decades of hard work and investment in Taiwan. Trump's remarks are obviously based on his campaign strategy, trying to attract voters' attention by creating controversy and strengthen his connection with conservative supporters.
