ASML CEO: Restrictions will cause us to completely lose the Chinese market

Following his comments on EUV lithography machine export controls on the 15th of this month, Peter Wennink, CEO of ASML of the Netherlands, expressed his opinions again on the 23rd.

One point he stressed was that doing so would only speed up China's independent research and development.

Although Peter Winn believes that intellectual property protection should be maintained, he does not agree with cutting off the export of high-end technology.

"If you take export control measures to shut out the Chinese market, it will force them to fight for technological autonomy... In 15 years' time, they will be able to make all these things themselves, and their market (for European suppliers) will completely disappear." Peter Wen made this statement when communicating with the media in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, where ASML is headquartered.

Previously, Peter Win stated that the restrictions would ultimately harm the interests of companies outside of China because they were excluded from one of the world's largest chip markets.

It is reported that SMIC's 7nm is now just waiting for the EUV lithography machine to enter the market. I wonder if Peter Wen's latest speech can win the EUV lithography machine license.

Not long ago, a report released by the global trade organization SEMI on Wednesday pointed out that mainland China has jumped to the world's largest semiconductor equipment sales market, with a scale of US$18.7 billion last year. If Taiwan is included, this figure will exceed US$35 billion.
