Entering 2019, Samsung's smartphone business showed a serious imbalance in the market structure.
On the one hand, Samsung is still the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, with a market share of 22.7% (according to the latest data from IDC);
on the other hand, in the world's largest smartphone market, China, Samsung's presence is minimal, with a share of only 0.7% (according to the latest data released by Strategy Analytics), and shipments of only 700,000 units, which is extremely inconsistent with its dominant role in the global market.
Despite this, Samsung is still lingering in the Chinese smartphone market; and with its strong supply chain and product strength, Samsung's flagship Galaxy Note 10 series in the second half of this year is still the most popular Android flagship phone in the global smartphone industry, including China.
At 4 p.m. Eastern Time on August 7, which is 4 a.m. Beijing Time on August 8, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series was officially released in New York.

At the beginning of the press conference, Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung's mobile division, took the stage and announced the protagonist of today - the Samsung Galaxy Note series. He said that this product will showcase Samsung's efforts in experience innovation, cooperation and brand display.
In terms of experience innovation, Gao Dongzhen first talked about 5G, saying that 5G brings faster speed and better performance; however, he quickly shifted the topic to user trust and security, and thus emphasized Samsung Knox, its own security solution based on the open source Android platform.
Subsequently, the Galaxy Note 10 series was officially unveiled, which is divided into two versions: Note 10/10+.
First of all, from the design point of view, the Samsung Note 10/10+ adopts a tough square shape, and the screen size is 6.3 and 6.8 inches. The latter is the largest screen size carried by the Note series, and the screen is still made of Immersive Dynamic Amoled material; at the same time, it adopts a centered hole design, the upper and lower borders are very narrow, and the size of the front camera is reduced. The body thickness is only 7.9mm. In the view of Leiphone.com (official account: Leiphone.com), this design of the Note 10 series is still very stunning.
In terms of color matching, it has three colors: Monet color, McQueen black and Mies white.
The S Pen has always been a focus of the Samsung Note series, and this time is no exception. The new S Pen configured in the Note 10 can write smoothly, present more detailed information, and can be directly converted from handwriting to text; it is worth mentioning that the S Pen can also be used on the Samsung Tab S6 tablet. The content generated by the two can be shared on mobile phones and tablets, and is compatible with multiple file formats such as Word and PDF.
Compared with last year's S Pen, this year's S Pen's remote control function is more advanced. It can not only remotely open the camera, but also switch between camera modes by waving it remotely; waving it upwards, the camera can also remotely switch between the front and rear cameras. In addition, the S Pen can also remotely control video and music playback, etc.
Samsung said that the S Pen's remote control function SDK will be open to developers and can be adapted to third-party apps.
In terms of imaging, the Samsung Note 10/+ emphasizes video functions, which can support professional-level video functions. For example, it can achieve video background blur, video sound focus, video image stabilization, video multi-function editing, etc., which is very powerful.
Next, we will focus on the AR Doodle function of Samsung Note 10/+. In short, it is to turn on the AR mode, and use the S Pen to create in the AR scene in this mode, and interact with the created content. Of course, Samsung did not forget to emphasize the Galaxy Note 10+'s unique rear depth-sensing camera, which can realize 3D modeling and allow 3D models to imitate human dance movements; of course, there will be more ways to play.
In terms of performance, the Samsung Note 10 series is capable of handling both work and life. Samsung first emphasizes gaming, saying that the device can understand the user's gaming mode to adjust performance and can achieve multi-user interaction. Of course, thanks to the Exynos 9825, its GPU and CPU have been greatly improved.
In terms of battery, Samsung says the device can last a full day and can support 45W super fast charging.
In terms of 5G, Samsung Note 10+ will launch a 5G version. There is no doubt that it can support faster download speeds, but Samsung once again emphasized security here, that is, Samsung Knox, and said that it will further protect users' data privacy.
Samsung also emphasized the Galaxy ecosystem and introduced a new smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Active 2, which has two dial diameters of 40mm and 44mm. Samsung said it is not just a watch, but also a health monitor for users. In addition, the phone also has an LTE version, supports remote control of the phone's camera function, and can be placed on the back of the phone for wireless charging.
The Galaxy Watch Active 2 starts at $279 and will go on sale on September 13.
Samsung also did not forget to emphasize Samsung Dex, a function that can turn a mobile phone into a computer; this time, whether it is a PC or a Mac, the phone can be connected to a computer through the Type-C interface. Here, Samsung also announced a collaboration with Microsoft to launch a new function in the Note 10 series - Link to Windows PC, so that you can reply to messages, view messages, mirror operations, answer calls, synchronize files, etc. on Windows 10 computers. In addition, the cooperation between the two parties is also reflected in the support of Microsoft's Outlook and other applications for the S Pen.
Following this conference, Samsung also released the Galaxy Book S notebook, which uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx processor and is equipped with Windows 10 (Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkepf was also in the audience). Thanks to the cooperation with Samsung and Microsoft, the notebook can naturally be connected to the Note 10 series. Its biggest highlight is the battery life, which is officially claimed to be up to 23 hours.
The Galaxy Book S starts at $999 and will be available in September.
The last thing announced is the price of the Galaxy Note 10 series. The starting price of the Samsung Note 10 is $949, and the 5G version is $1,049; the starting price of the Galaxy Note 10+ is $1,099, and the 5G version is $1,299. It is worth mentioning that the Samsung Note 10 series can also be purchased in the Microsoft Store.
At this press conference, Koh Dong-jin took the stage and once again announced the further in-depth cooperation between Samsung and Microsoft, and welcomed Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who gave a brief outlook on the cooperation between the two parties and expressed that they will work together to create a better world.
Of course, Gao Dongzhen did not forget Samsung's efforts in environmental protection, recycling, and poverty alleviation, and invited officials from the United Nations Development Program to support it.
Leifeng.com noted that at the same time as the New York launch event, Samsung had already opened pre-orders for the Note 10 series on its official Chinese website. The Note 10 only supports 4G LTE networks, with a trial price of 6,999 yuan, while the Note 10 Plus only supports 5G versions (only NSA networks), and the trial price has not been determined. Samsung said that the so-called trial price is not the final price of the Note 10 series. If the final price is lower than the trial price, the difference will be refunded to users; but if it is higher than the trial price, users do not need to pay the difference - it can be said to be very generous.
Regarding the delivery time, Samsung said that the Chinese version of Note 10 is expected to be delivered on August 21, 2019, while the Note 10+ 5G is expected to be delivered on September 5, 2019. Of course, according to the latest news, Samsung will also hold a press conference in Beijing on August 21 specifically for the Chinese market, which can reflect Samsung's attention to the Chinese market.
There is no doubt that judging from Samsung's press conference, with its strong hardware strength and cooperation ability, the Samsung Note 10 series is still the undisputed king in the Android camp. Its strategic partnership with Microsoft (and the resulting presence of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella) has become the highlight of the entire press conference. At the same time, facing the upcoming 5G opportunity, Samsung does not dare to neglect it at all. The Note 10+ 5G version can be said to be one of the earliest 5G mobile phones to be launched in the Chinese market.
However, in the view of Leiphone.com, even a powerful company like Samsung still faces strong pressure from competitors in the Chinese market, and the high price of six or seven thousand yuan may become another obstacle to its development in the Chinese market - this is also a problem that Samsung needs to seriously face in its efforts to break into the Chinese smartphone market.
