At 14:23 on the afternoon of the 9th, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in the eastern waters of Taiwan. The epicenter was approximately 89.5 kilometers east of the Hualien County Government. The earthquake was 27.5 kilometers deep and was felt throughout Taiwan. In response, wafer foundries TSMC and UMC stated that production operations were not affected.

TSMC said that its Hsinchu Science Park, Central Science Park and Southern Science Park plants were not affected by the earthquake and did not meet the evacuation standards. UMC also pointed out that production operations at its Hsinchu Science Park and Southern Science Park plants were not affected.

UMC recently announced that its revenue in April was 22.796 billion yuan, a monthly increase of 2.9%, setting a new monthly record. Legal persons said that although there was noise from the terminals, UMC's production capacity utilization rate continued to be fully loaded.

The Central Meteorological Bureau stated that earthquakes of magnitude 6 or above are common in the region, and aftershocks of magnitude 4-5 cannot be ruled out in the next five days.
