Not every sports watch dares to compete with Garmin and sells for only 799 yuan
Huami Technology, a company in the Xiaomi ecosystem that made the Xiaomi Band and Xiaomi Sports App, released a smartwatch that is not called the Xiaomi Watch on the afternoon of August 30. In fact, Huami is reluctant to emphasize the word "smartwatch". CEO Huang Wang said that their product is positioned as a professional sports watch, comparable to Garmin, and the smart part is a gift to users.
"Amazfit Sports Watch" is the correct name of this watch, which belongs to Huami Technology's own brand Amazfit. If you abbreviate it as "Huami Watch", Huami people will not be angry; but if you abbreviate it as "Xiaomi Watch", Xiaomi's spokesperson may be unhappy.
In addition to the Xiaomi wristband, Huami also launched the Amazfit brand wristband last year, which is mainly fashionable and has a ring-shaped wristband body made of ceramic material, which is impressive. This ceramic material has been continued in Huami's new sports watch, so the Amazfit sports watch also has a "shiny" style. Compared with the general impression of "professional sports watches", this product has a more fashionable feel and less of a sense of being exclusively for enthusiasts.
In fact, this "professional sports watch" does not have a good waterproof performance, which is of great concern to enthusiasts. It provides the same IPX 7 waterproof rating as the ordinary Apple Watch, which can be immersed in water for 30 minutes; it is not as good as the "10ATM" of the benchmark product Garmin fenix3 HR, which is 100 meters waterproof (10 atmospheres). The difference is that one can only be worn in a cold shower, while the other can be worn for snorkeling.
But if you consider the price comparison between the two, 5880 yuan vs 799 yuan, it seems that everything can be forgiven. Huami even claims to have brought a killer feature, that is, the battery life can reach twice that of Garmin's product.
With the GPS and heart rate monitoring sensors turned on throughout the entire run, Huami's watch can work for 35 hours, while Garmin's can work for 16 hours. For runners who have experienced 100 kilometers of cross-country running, a battery life of more than 30 hours means no need to charge the entire run. "Garmin requires charging while running, or wearing two watches in rotation." Huami also revealed that if used normally, under the conditions of "running for half an hour every day and receiving 200 push notifications," the battery life can reach 5 days.
In the "smart" part, Huami mentioned its cooperation with Alipay, which supports scanning code for payment. According to Leiphone.com, Huami's watch system is developed based on the Android platform, and it poached Zhang Lei, a big shot from Google's US headquarters, who has participated in many Android-related projects. It is not clear whether this system is compatible with the Android Wear platform software promoted by Google's watch system. Domestic Android platform smart watches face an embarrassing problem, which is that they are not supported by WeChat and QQ. Leiphone.com (search for "Leiphone.com" official account to follow) asked Huang Wang about this issue. He said that he had met with Zhang Xiaolong, and the other party recognized Huami's approach of focusing on the sports field, but "cannot say for the time being" about the cooperation between the two parties.
The good news is that if you are a runner, or want to be a runner, you don't have to wait for this watch. It will be available for purchase on mainstream e-commerce websites tomorrow, August 31st.
For the team that successfully created the national-level product, the Xiaomi wristband, this is the second foray into its own brand, Amazfit, but don’t forget that the company’s predecessor, “Zhiqi”, made “smart watches” as early as 2013. This time, they understand better than others what kind of wearable devices users need.
