In the first three quarters of 2017, Huawei's smartphone shipments surpassed Apple for the first time

In the first three quarters of this year, Huawei's mobile phone shipments exceeded 112 million units, surpassing Apple for the first time to rank second in global market share, and continued to rank first in the Chinese market.

Yu Chengdong explained that the reason for the significant year-on-year growth in Huawei's mobile phone sales this year is mainly due to the good performance of markets such as Europe, Japan, and the mainland. In terms of Huawei's future mobile phone product layout, the high-end market will definitely be the focus.

Canon SLR camera full screen patent exposed

Recently, Canon announced a new patent for a super-large flip-up back screen for SLR cameras. According to the patent description, the back screen almost covers the entire camera body, and the entire screen can be flipped to the top of the body, and can be adjusted horizontally at multiple angles to facilitate framing in special environments. In addition, after the screen is flipped up, you can see the dials, buttons, etc. on the body hidden behind the screen.

It is expected that this "full screen" flip screen will be applied to Canon's EOS-1Dx series, EOS 5D series, EOS 7D series and other SLRs.

Microsoft admits Windows 10 Fall Creators Update has bugs

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update rolled out on October 17, and just as expected, the first users who received the update encountered several bugs, including one that hid their apps in the Start menu.

In most cases, apps can be launched from the Windows Store, but after users upgraded to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, some apps no longer appear in the Start menu and are more difficult to find on the system.

Microsoft has finally acknowledged the bug and explained that it is investigating reports of missing apps after installing the Fall Creators Update, while also providing an article with troubleshooting steps to restore apps. Importantly, the company has not yet clarified when it will fix the issue, although the bug may be resolved through a cumulative update sometime in the coming months.

Microsoft has provided a tutorial that can repair or reset missing applications by uninstalling and reinstalling, or re-registering the application using PowerShell. If nothing works, users will have two more dramatic options: return to the previous version of Windows 10, or completely reset the system and restore all settings to default values.

Alibaba sues several self-media outlets, seeking 1 million yuan in compensation

Alibaba said it will formally sue several self-media accounts that spread rumors about "Jack Ma's mansion", requiring the accounts involved to stop spreading the rumors, apologize and eliminate the impact, and to pay RMB 1 million in compensation. Alibaba said the accounts involved in the lawsuit include "Wisdom Life", "Boss Thinking Mode", "Boss Thinking Selection", "Entrepreneur Strategy", "Annoying You Yet", "Coolest Comics" and so on.

The above-mentioned self-media accounts used WeChat public accounts, Tencent Video and other channels to describe "Jack Ma's luxury house, worth 1 billion! The most expensive in the world!!!" "Jack Ma's another luxury house was exposed, worth 3 billion, it can be called the world's first palace, luxurious and extravagant!" "Jack Ma's luxury house worth 4 billion is fully exposed, the interior decoration is extremely luxurious!" "Jack Ma's luxury house worth 5 billion is fully exposed again, the decoration is called the best in the world!" and other titles, but the amount in the title has risen from 1 billion to 5 billion, and it has been quickly spread through online channels such as WeChat Moments.

In September this year, Jack Ma responded to such "luxury house" rumors through Weibo, saying "I've seen so many of them that I almost believe them myself."

JPMorgan Chase cuts Model 3 fourth-quarter production forecast in half

Tesla's recent failure to meet its production targets for its new Model 3 electric sedan has worried Wall Street's top investment firm JPMorgan Chase, which reiterated its "underweight" rating on Tesla shares and lowered its target share price, predicting that the electric car maker's problems with car production will continue, according to CNBC.

In the third quarter of this year, Tesla delivered a total of 26,150 electric vehicles to customers, but only 220 of them were Model 3. According to data from market research firm FactSet, Wall Street analysts had previously expected Tesla's total production of electric vehicles in the third quarter to be 25,860, while Model 3 would be 1,260.

The figures come two months after Tesla said it would produce 1,500 Model 3 electric cars in the third quarter.

"(Third quarter) Model 3 deliveries were significantly below both Tesla management's and our forecasts," JPMorgan analyst Ryan Brinkman wrote in a note to clients. "Tesla management cited production bottlenecks as the primary factor behind the lower-than-expected deliveries of the newly launched Model 3, further fueling our concern that the significant execution risk associated with the Model 3 launch does not appear to be fully reflected in Tesla's current stock price."

As a result, Brinkman lowered his fourth-quarter Model 3 delivery forecast to 15,000 from 30,000.

Dubai appoints world's first 'Minister of Artificial Intelligence'

Governments around the world are beginning to recognize the potential and importance of artificial intelligence (AI). International acceptance is also growing as AI regulations are implemented. In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the government has taken a further step by appointing a Minister of Artificial Intelligence.

It is understood that the UAE's first Minister of Artificial Intelligence is Omar Bin Sultan Al Olama, 27. UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum said in a statement on Thursday that Olama is one of six newly appointed ministers, three of whom are women, who represent the UAE's pursuit of "a new stage in future skills, future science and future technology" to ensure a better future for future generations.

As tech companies begin to build business models around AI, it’s no surprise that countries like the UAE and cities like Dubai are investing heavily in the technology as they want to be at the forefront of this development.

Mozilla announces plans to standardize mixed reality technology

Mozilla has announced that it wants to standardize the way mixed reality and augmented reality work on the web, no matter what device the user is using. The company even proposed frameworks and tool sets to work together to improve compatibility. Mozilla said that its initial focus will be on how to make devices, headsets, frameworks, and tool sets work together, allowing developers to choose from a variety of tools and publishing methods to introduce new immersive experiences on the web and have them work together in a fully functional way. Mozilla pointed out that the standardization of virtual reality has been smoother than that of augmented reality.

Mozilla has drafted a WebXR API proposal for AR and VR devices. WebXR formalizes these technologies while also demonstrating common concepts across AR platforms such as Anchors in HoloLens, ARKit, and ARCore. Mozilla has developed a WebXR viewer that will soon be available in the App Store.

Regarding 3D support in the browser, Mozilla said it will continue to develop Firefox with broader 3D support and is currently developing a 3D mobile browser platform using Servo to support the new generation of mixed reality headsets that will appear on the market in the near future.
