Which ultra-compact CLT power inductor is the best?

TDK Group has launched the CLT32 series of power inductors with a new design. This series of components is not only extremely compact in size, but also has excellent electrical specifications. Nine models are available, covering an inductance range of 17 nH to 440 nH, a saturation current range of 13.5 A to 60 A, and an operating temperature range of -40 °C to 165 °C (including inductor temperature rise). They are all extremely compact in size, with a board area of ​​only 3.2 x 2.5 mm and a height of 2.5 mm, making them the most compact SMT power inductors of their kind.


The new series of components are all AEC-Q200 certified and feature innovative designs, such as coils overmolded with ferromagnetic plastic compounds. The ends of the coils are directly used as inductor pads, eliminating the outdated conventional solder joint connection between the coil and the inductor pad, greatly improving the reliability of the product and making it very suitable for automotive applications. The robust coil structure also achieves an ultra-low RDC value (only 0.39 mΩ at an inductance of 17 nH), thereby minimizing losses.


The CLT32 series inductors are compact in size and reliable in performance, making them ideal for safety-critical ADAS/AD applications in the automotive industry. In this application, high-performance processors with double-digit rated currents are usually required, and PMIC (power management IC) is used as a power management to provide large currents, while power inductors are used as key components for stable power output. The CLT32 series components are designed for switching frequencies up to 10 MHz and meet future requirements for high-frequency DC/DC converters in advance.
