[New Product Recommendation] The new EFM32 32-bit MCU has a set of power saving for IoT!
New Silicon Labs Tiny Gecko MCUs Extend Battery Life for IoT Connected Devices
-Ultra -low-power EFM32™ microcontrollers provide secure, feature-rich processing for energy-sensitive wireless device designs-
Silicon Labs ( NASDAQ : SLAB ) has expanded its popular EFM32™ Tiny Gecko microcontroller ( MCU ) family to meet the needs of developers designing the next generation of secure, battery-powered Internet of Things ( IoT ) connected devices. Silicon Labs' new EFM32TG11 Tiny Gecko MCU provides a cost-effective, ultra-low-power solution for devices that require long battery life without sacrificing functionality or security. The Tiny Gecko 11 MCU is ideal for smart meters, personal medical devices and home automation products, which often feature multiple sensors, local displays and touch controls. The new MCU can be used as a standalone microcontroller or with a network coprocessor in IoT designs, providing developers with excellent design flexibility.
Tiny Gecko 11 MCUs are optimized for battery-powered applications that provide cloud connectivity through wireless access points, gateways and hubs. When used with Silicon Labs wireless transceivers, SoCs or modules in many lightweight wireless applications, Tiny Gecko 11 MCUs can manage both the application and the wireless connection. When used with complex protocols such as 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi® , Tiny Gecko 11 can be assigned to independently manage the MCU application, simplifying wireless system design. Tiny Gecko 11 MCUs include ample memory, sensor interfaces, peripherals, communication links and hardware encryption modules to support wireless applications or standalone MCU applications.
Based on the ARM® Cortex®-M0+ processor running at 48 MHz , the Tiny Gecko 11 MCU provides sufficient processing power while maintaining extremely high energy efficiency. These MCUs have low operating current ( 37μA/MHz ), fast wake-up, a range of sleep modes ( 1.3μA in deep sleep ), and other enhanced features and architectures to meet the design needs of secure, battery-powered IoT products for high performance and low power consumption.
Tiny Gecko 11 MCUs integrate a range of features that expand application potential:
-
Advanced capacitive sensing controller with wake-on-touch capability for applications requiring a touch interface
-
Low-Energy Sensor ( LESENSE ) interface for autonomous sensing in deep sleep mode
-
Patented 8x32 segment LCD controller reduces power consumption by up to 40 %
-
CAN controller for wired connections in industrial applications
-
Best-in-class hardware encryption, supporting AES , hash functions ( SHA ), cyclic redundancy check ( CRC ), energy-efficient true random number generator ( TRNG ), and security management unit ( SMU ) for granular device security access
The new Tiny Gecko MCUs are software- and pin-compatible with other EFM32Gecko devices, but feature more Flash (up to 128kB ) and RAM (up to 32kB ) than previous Tiny Gecko devices , making it easier to develop feature-rich embedded applications that support real-time operating systems ( RTOS ) such as Micrium OS .
The EFM32TG11 Tiny Gecko is available for sampling and in production in six packages, including the ultra-small 5mm x 5mm QFN32 package. The SLSTK3301A starter development kit is also available, enabling developers to quickly evaluate and develop Tiny Gecko -based applications. In addition, the Silicon Labs Simplicity Studio development tool: http://www.silabs.com/simplicity-studio also supports these new Tiny Gecko MCUs , which developers can download for free.
