ROHM launches a special website to support automotive "functional safety" design

ROHM, a world-renowned semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, has branded its products supporting automotive "functional safety" as "ComfySIL TM " and has opened a special website that brings together related products. This website improves the searchability of products and various documents, helping to improve the work efficiency of electronic circuit designers and system designers in the automotive field.

In recent years, in the automotive field, with the acceleration of technological innovation represented by ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), the demand for "functional safety" that helps prevent accidents has continued to grow. In addition, achieving safety requirements at the level of components that make up automotive electrical equipment plays an important role in ensuring automotive safety. In the functional safety international standard "ISO 26262 2nd Edition" revised in December 2018, requirements for semiconductor components were added.



ROHM responded quickly to these requirements and obtained ISO 26262 development process certification from German third-party certification body TÜV Rheinland in March 2018. It has gradually expanded its product lineup to include various documents required for "functional safety" design, and currently has a product lineup of more than 1,000 products.


ROHM has created a special website that brings together these products that support "functional safety". In addition, it has given the corresponding products the "ComfySIL TM " brand name and reflected it on the website and various documents, thereby greatly improving the searchability of the products.

The “ComfySIL TM ” brand covers not only the automotive field, but also includes products that support “functional safety” in the industrial equipment field, and will continue to expand its product lineup that supports “functional safety” in industrial equipment in the future.


As semiconductors play an increasingly important role in automobiles and industrial equipment, ROHM will continue to strive to produce high-quality products and contribute to the creation of a safe, secure, and environmentally friendly automotive society through its products.


ROHM's initiatives in automotive products

Since its founding, ROHM has been adhering to the corporate philosophy of "quality first" and adopting a "vertically integrated" system in which everything from development to manufacturing is carried out within the group. It strictly implements the concept of high quality in all processes and actively establishes a reliable traceability system and optimizes the supply chain.

For automotive products, ROHM has established a dedicated production line for automotive products and promoted the development of products that comply with the automotive quality management system "IATF 16949" and the automotive electronics product reliability standard "AEC-Q100/101/200".

As early as 2015, ROHM began to build an ISO 26262 process to support "functional safety", and in March 2018, it obtained the ISO 26262 development process certification from the German third-party certification agency TÜV Rheinland.



Functional safety categories and available documentation

ROHM has the following three functional safety products (currently only support the automotive field).

・FS process compliant

Indicates that the corresponding LSI is developed according to the process that complies with the ASIL level specified in the ISO 26262 standard.

・ FS mechanism implemented

Indicates that the corresponding LSI is equipped with a safety mechanism required by the ASIL level.

・ FS supportive

It indicates that this is an LSI developed for the automotive field and supports safety analysis related to functional safety.

About ComfySIL TM

ROHM launched the ComfySIL TM brand in order to enable customers who design functional safety products to use SIL (Safety Integrity Level)-compliant products comfortably, and to contribute to building a safe, secure, and comfortable society .

ComfySIL TM is applicable to functional safety products that follow the ComfySIL TM concept, not only in the automotive field but also in the industrial equipment field.
