Panasonic's High-Efficiency GaN Power Solutions Available on Mouser

Mouser Electronics is now distributing Panasonic's gallium nitride (GaN) solutions. To meet the efficiency and power density design needs of modern power supplies, design engineers have been looking for GaN technology and other alternatives to traditional MOS technology to save energy and reduce the size of various industrial and consumer power switching systems. Panasonic's GaN solutions include power transistors, gate drivers, and evaluation boards that reduce energy losses in various power applications, such as power supplies, solar inverters, engine drives, electric vehicles (EVs), and more.

The gallium nitride (GaN) solutions now available from Mouser use a composite material GaN on a silicon substrate with high breakdown voltage and low on-resistance, enabling faster switching and easier miniaturization than traditional silicon devices. The PGA26E19BA GaN surface mount (SMD) power transistor is an enhanced normally-off power switch with a 600V breakdown voltage. The soon-to-be-released (Mouser) PGA26C09DV GaN power transistor is housed in a TO-220 package and also has a 600V breakdown voltage to prevent current collapse. Both devices feature zero recovery losses and use Panasonic's proprietary gate injection transistor (GIT) technology to achieve low on-resistance. GIT technology also prevents current collapse caused by the continued increase in on-resistance at high voltages, ensuring safe device operation.

Mouser also stocks the Panasonic AN34092B high-speed gate driver, which requires minimal external components to drive SMD or TO-220 GaN transistors. This single-channel high-speed gate driver integrates a constant current source and negative voltage circuit, supporting adjustable source current (2.5 mA to 25 mA) and external resistors. The AN34092B gate driver provides undervoltage lockout and thermal protection, and includes VR pin voltage and negative voltage monitoring circuits.

The PGA26E19BA SMD transistor and AN34092B gate driver are supported by the PGA26E19BA-SWEVB006 chopper evaluation board, available from Mouser, which can be used to measure the switching characteristics of the onboard PGA26E19BA transistor (which can be enhanced by the AN34092B gate driver). The switching characteristics of the PGA26C09DV TO-220 transistor can be measured using the PGA26C09DV-SWEVB001 evaluation board.
