Several important questions about Zigbee [Copy link]

Hello everyone, I am a zigbee newbie, but in the process of studying bdbs, there are a few questions that I have not been able to understand: 1. Zigbee supports mesh, and mesh expands the network range through the relay of each router node. Is this understanding correct? But through experimental observation of Xiaomi's smart home kit, I found that as long as the gateway is added through the app, the other slave devices in the kit can be added to the app management, which means that the slave devices can naturally associate with the gateway device? How is this done? Or, how is the conventional mesh networking usually done, through touchlink? Or EZ-mode? 2. When adding a child device by pressing the reset button on the slave device for 5s, is it possible that the gateway next door (assuming that the neighboring home is also in the network enable state at this time) scans and adds it? Are there any rules in the zigbee protocol to avoid this phenomenon of "adding the neighbor's device", such as through signal strength? 3. Where is the robustness of the zigbee network reflected, and what is the so-called self-healing? If my gateway suddenly crashes (or goes offline, resets), is it possible that the routing nodes in the network can automatically become new gateway nodes? If a router (repeater) node in my mesh network crashes, will the child nodes managed by the router node automatically join the adjacent router node and become its children?

I am currently paying attention to and learning about ZigBee technology. Regarding point 3, based on my knowledge, I feel that the gateway is a single point of failure. The entire ZigBee network needs to communicate with the outside world through the gateway to send data and receive instructions. If the gateway is disconnected, it will be isolated from the outside world. If the operation of the devices in the network is designed not to rely on resources outside the ZB network, it will not be affected. Just to mention the second point, this kind of press-to-add is some custom control rules, which does not involve the Zigbee protocol. Generally, whitelisting is used to avoid adding other devices. The third point is to look at the definition of full-function devices and reduced-function devices, and do not limit nodes to gateways and relays.
