I am currently paying attention to and learning about ZigBee technology. Regarding point 3, based on my knowledge, I feel that the gateway is a single point of failure. The entire ZigBee network needs to communicate with the outside world through the gateway to send data and receive instructions. If the gateway is disconnected, it will be isolated from the outside world. If the operation of the devices in the network is designed not to rely on resources outside the ZB network, it will not be affected. I don't know if my understanding is correct.
