ADI and Momenta have reached a strategic cooperation to jointly accelerate the industrialization of high-precision maps for autonomous driving

High-precision maps can provide accurate and real-time information for autonomous vehicles to ensure safe driving, and are an indispensable part of realizing autonomous driving. The first phase of cooperation between ADI and Momenta has been carried out around the construction and update of high-precision maps. ADI's inertial navigation unit (IMU) has been applied to Momenta's L3-level autonomous driving solutions for highways and L4-level autonomous driving solutions for urban roads.

Compared with more expensive sensor solutions such as fiber optic inertial navigation and laser gyroscope, ADI's IMU has a better price-performance ratio. In some extremely bad weather conditions or when there is no GPS signal, IMU becomes an important input for autonomous driving.

From the perspective of high-precision map acquisition mode, crowdsourcing mapping has become the mainstream development direction due to its cost advantages and the ability to complete rapid updates, especially for the Asian market where infrastructure is changing with each passing day. Momenta's high-precision semantic map based on vision has the characteristics of crowdsourcing, high accuracy, and fast updates. Momenta not only has its own mapping vehicles, but can also use taxis, trucks, buses and other vehicles to achieve large-scale crowdsourcing deployment and build the "brain of autonomous driving."
