Samsung DeX Docking Station Selects Cypress USB-C Solution

Cypress announced today that its USB-C technology will be used in the Samsung DeX desktop dock, allowing users to use their smartphones as desktop computers. The Samsung DeX desktop dock can be connected to the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones via the USB-C port, allowing users to use apps, read files, set or check information notifications, send and receive text messages and make calls in the desktop environment of the phone.

In addition to supporting fast charging of the mobile phone's USB-C port, Cypress's four-chip USB-C docking station solution also provides plug-and-play connection functions, making it easy for the mobile phone to connect to a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and various USB peripherals.

Functionality

Cypress's powerful docking station solution can support the DeX desktop docking station to achieve multiple functions.

Two Cypress EZ-PD™ CCG2 CYPD2122 controllers provide power delivery and smart device charging, controlling upstream charging of smartphones and downstream power delivery of peripherals, respectively.

Additionally, the Cypress CYP65632 USB 2.0 hub enables two USB devices and Ethernet ports to be connected to the smartphone.

The Cypress CY7C65210 billboard controller prevents connection errors caused by mismatching capabilities between peripherals and smartphones and allows firmware upgrades for both USB-C controllers, further optimizing the user experience.
