TSMC's Nanjing Fab 16 held its opening and mass production ceremony yesterday. Chairman Liu Deyin and CFO and TSMC Nanjing Chairman He Limei personally attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and delivered speeches. He Limei pointed out that the plant is TSMC's most beautiful wafer plant and has set many TSMC records, including the fastest plant construction and the fastest production line. In 2020, the monthly production capacity will be expanded to 20,000 wafers.

TSMC, the leading wafer foundry, held a mass production ceremony for its Nanjing plant yesterday. In his speech, Chairman Liu Deyin pointed out that the semiconductor industry has developed rapidly in the past 60 years, leading the information industry revolution. Its application and development in the next few decades will still be limitless. The IC design industry in mainland China has grown rapidly in recent years. TSMC will be able to witness this boom in the future. By providing nearby services at the Nanjing plant, it can help local design companies grow further.

Liu Deyin emphasized that TSMC invested in building a factory in mainland China in 2003 and has participated in the development of China's semiconductor industry for nearly 15 years. China's semiconductor industry has gone from lagging behind to catching up. Today, related companies are ranked among the world's top companies. The semiconductor design industry has grown rapidly in recent years, with revenue growing from US$3 billion 10 years ago to US$21 billion today, and market share growing from 6% to 20%. TSMC has also witnessed this prosperity. In the future, through the Nanjing factory, it will provide nearby services to assist local design companies and further grow.

Liu Deyin also believes that TSMC's 16nm process will significantly improve the level of local wafer services in mainland China.

Liu Deyin emphasized that TSMC strives to become a partner of the global semiconductor industry. TSMC adheres to integrity, commitment, and continuous innovation. On this basis, it releases new energy for customers and further enriches human life. With the support of customers and suppliers, TSMC has maintained its leadership position for many years. Last year, its revenue reached US$32.1 billion, setting a new record. It is believed that the development and application of the semiconductor industry will still be limitless in the next few years.

Liu Deyin also said that semiconductors are a multinational industry that requires the free flow and incentives of innovative elements from all over the world. Therefore, in addition to establishing operating bases in major global markets, talent recruitment will also be regardless of nationality. In a highly competitive environment, TSMC's most advanced processes and production technologies rely on the most effective intellectual property system to protect them and ensure fair competition within the industry. Only in this way can we focus on research and development and promote innovation. Therefore, TSMC is grateful to the Chinese governments at all levels for protecting intellectual property rights and for the attention and efforts they have given.

In addition, Liu Deyin also said that TSMC's Nanjing plant has also obtained the international green building LEED Gold Certification. He is very impressed by the colleagues in the Nanjing plant for their tremendous efforts and hard work in the past two years and three months, from building global factories, entering machine production, to mass production, etc., and continuing to create miracles.

Nanjing Plant Creates Three Firsts for TSMC

TSMC's 12-inch Nanjing plant Fab 16 opened yesterday (31st). TSMC CFO and TSMC Nanjing Chairman Ho Li-mei said in her speech that TSMC Nanjing broke three TSMC plant construction records: first, it was the fastest to build a plant, which took only 14 months; second, it was the fastest to go online, and entered production in less than half a year; third, the plant is the most beautiful and most distinctive TSMC plant.

Ho Li-mei said that looking back at the origin of the Nanjing 12-inch wafer factory, TSMC decided to invest in Nanjing at the end of 2015. After 15 months of multi-party research and evaluation, as well as preliminary preparations, and with the assistance of government leaders at all levels and relevant functional departments, TSMC officially signed a contract with the Nanjing Municipal Government on March 28, 2016, and broke ground on July 7 of the same year, followed by a ceremony to hold the machine on September 12, 2017.

Ho Li-mei said that the semiconductor market in mainland China is growing rapidly, and TSMC's business in mainland China is also growing strongly. Currently, the monthly production capacity of the Nanjing plant is 10,000 pieces, which is expected to increase to 15,000 pieces by the end of next year, and reach 20,000 pieces in 2020. In addition, in order to provide better service to customers, TSMC's "Open Innovation Platform (OIP)" ecosystem has been introduced to mainland China to assist mainland IC design companies and grow together to become a powerful force in the semiconductor industry.

Ho Li-mei said that the establishment of TSMC Nanjing Plant not only brought the most advanced manufacturing technology of 12-inch wafer plants to the mainland, but also created a complete local supply chain and living circle. Thanks to the unremitting support of suppliers and partners, it has now formed a large-scale integrated park covering an area of more than 670 acres, surrounded by greenery, combining technology, ecology and living functions.

Ho Li-mei also echoed TSMC's core values mentioned by TSMC Chairman Liu De-yin, namely Integrity, Commitment, Innovation, and Customer Trust, and called on colleagues to deeply embed the four values of ICIC in their hearts and implement them in their work and life.
