This agreement was first signed in 2022 for a period of two years, authorizing Avnet to become the exclusive distributor of Huizhong smart water meters in Australia and New Zealand. This renewal extends this exclusive authorization for two years. At the same time, the agreement also expanded the geographical scope of Avnet's exercise of distribution rights to include the main market Singapore. This move aims to gradually expand the existing distribution agreement to other markets around the world.

Although smart water meters have been on the market for some time, the Avnet Design Services team will work with Huizhong to develop an internet-connected data logger for water meters with pipe diameters larger than 50 mm.
▎Unlike traditional analog water meters that need to be read regularly by staff on site, smart water meters can be read remotely, thereby reducing staff workload and lowering operating costs. Smart water meters can also report leaks and burst pipes in real time, including details such as the exact cause and location of the leak or burst pipe. Once alerted, the water company can immediately intervene and repair the fault, thereby reducing economic losses caused by water waste, mitigating the environmental impact of leaks and water seepage, reducing structural damage to properties and other related safety hazards risks of.
▎In addition to saving water companies millions of dollars in water costs, residents can also access relevant data through the client and monitor their daily water usage in real time. With this knowledge and information, they can adjust their living habits to save water, thereby saving money on their water bills. In addition, smart water meters can discreetly monitor the water usage patterns of elderly people living alone and alert relatives if water consumption suddenly changes or is interrupted. This is a win-win-win situation for water companies, users and the environment.
Ms. Yifen Chen, President of Avnet South Asia and Korea and President of Avnet United, said: “Following the successful deployment of smart water meters in Australia, we are immediately focusing on introducing this technology to other countries in the near future. Population growth coupled with climate change is undeniable. , and the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, exacerbating water security concerns around the world, the inclusion of the Singapore market in the distribution agreement is a milestone for both Avnet and Singapore as they transition towards a sustainable future. significance."
In 2006, Document No. 8 released by the World Bank estimated that the global annual non-revenue water cost was as high as US$14 billion. The market for smart water management is vast and as the population increases, so does the pressure on infrastructure and resources. In the future, the market for smart water management will continue to grow.
Ms. Chen Yifen said that the smart water meter jointly developed by Avnet and Huizhong is an ideal example of using technology to support sustainable development to improve society, economy and environment. While the partnership with Huizhong marks Avnet's first foray into the smart water meter business, it is consistent with Avnet's overall Internet of Things (IoT) strategy, which envisions a fully connected and sustainable world.
“ With our ever-expanding portfolio of innovative technology solutions and the support of Huizhong’s strong partners, we are honored to help the entire society gradually and steadily shift towards sustainable development. Through our unremitting research and cooperation, we will address the full range of threats. There are almost no problems in human survival and development that science and technology cannot overcome," Ms. Chen Yifen added.
