PCB industry trends
1. China's PCB industry has developed rapidly as a whole
Since the reform and opening up, China has attracted large-scale transfer of European and American manufacturing industries due to its preferential policies in labor resources, market, investment, etc. A large number of electronic products and manufacturers have set up factories in China, which has driven the development of related industries including PCB. According to statistics from China CPCA, in 2006, China's actual PCB output reached 130 million square meters, with an output value of US$12.1 billion, accounting for 24.90% of the world's total PCB output value, surpassing Japan to become the world's first. From 2000 to 2006, the average annual growth rate of China's PCB market reached 20%, far exceeding the global average. In 2008, the global financial crisis caused a huge impact on the PCB industry, but it did not cause a catastrophic blow to China's PCB industry. Stimulated by national economic policies, China's PCB industry recovered comprehensively in 2010, and China's PCB output value reached US$19.971 billion in 2010. Prismark predicts that China will maintain a compound annual growth rate of 8.10% between 2010 and 2015, which is higher than the global average growth rate of 5.40%.
2. Unbalanced regional distribution of industries
China's PCB industry is mainly distributed in South China and East China, which together account for 90% of the country, and the industrial agglomeration effect is obvious. This phenomenon is mainly related to the fact that the main production base stations of China's electronic industry are concentrated in the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta.
3. Distribution of downstream applications of China's PCB industry
The distribution of downstream applications of China's PCB industry is shown in the figure below. Consumer electronics accounts for the highest proportion, reaching 39%; followed by computers, accounting for 22%; communications account for 14%; industrial control/medical instruments account for 14%; automotive electronics account for 6%; and national defense and aerospace account for 5%.
4. Technology development lags behind the world's advanced level
Although China is now the world's number one in terms of industrial scale, it still lags behind the world's advanced level in terms of the overall technical level of the PCB industry. In terms of product structure, multilayer boards account for most of the output value, but most of them are low-end products with less than 8 layers. HDI, flexible boards, etc. have a certain scale, but there is a gap in technical content with advanced foreign products such as Japan. Few domestic companies can produce IC substrates with the highest technical content. The
current status of the PCB industry
Benefiting from the support of new terminal products and new markets, the global PCB market has successfully achieved recovery and growth. According to statistics from the Hong Kong Printed Circuit Association (HKPCA), the global PCB market will develop steadily in 2011, with an expected growth of 6-9%, and China is expected to grow by 9-12%. The analysis report of Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute (IEK) predicts that the global PCB output value will increase by 10.36% in 2011, reaching US$41.615 billion. According to the analysis data of Prismark and the report released by the R&D Center of Industrial Securities, the changes in the application structure and product structure of PCB reflect the future development trend of the industry. With the decline in the output value of single/double-sided boards and multi-layer boards, the output value of HDI boards, package carrier boards, and flexible boards has increased, indicating that the growth in the fields of computer motherboards, communication backplanes, and automotive boards is relatively slow, while HDI boards, package boards, and flexible boards used in "light, thin, short and small" electronic products such as high-end mobile phones and laptops will continue to grow rapidly.
North America
The American Printed Circuit Board Association (IPC) announced that the book-to-bill ratio of overall printed circuit board manufacturers in North America was 0.95 in February 2011, which means that for every $100 of products shipped that month, only $95 worth of new orders will be received. The B/B value has been below 1 for the fifth consecutive month, and the industry sentiment in North America has not substantially recovered.
Japan
· The earthquake in Japan will affect the supply of some PCB raw materials in the short term, but will be conducive to the transfer of production capacity to Taiwan and the mainland in the medium and long term· High-end PCB manufacturers are accelerating their expansion in the mainland, and the transfer of technology, production capacity and orders to the mainland is an inevitable trend· Taiwan's China Times Electronic News reported that Japan's supply chain is broken, and Chinese and Korean PCB board manufacturers will become big winners
Taiwan
Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute (IEK) analysts pointed out that benefiting from the overall global economic recovery and the support of emerging countries' consumption, Taiwan's PCB industry is expected to grow by 29% in 2011. Global production capacity will further transfer to China. The China Investment Consulting Analysis Report pointed out that China's printed circuit board industry will enter a period of rapid growth under the situation of domestic sales growth and continuous global production capacity transfer. By 2014, the proportion of China's printed circuit board industry in the world will increase to 41.92%.
The gap with developed countries
After nearly half a century of hard work, China's printed circuit industry has become an indispensable and important foundation and guarantee for China's electronic information industry, and its output value has ranked second in the world. In 2004, China's total PCB output value reached US$8.15 billion, and the total import and export volume was US$8.9 billion. It is expected that it will soon rise to the first place in the world.
China is a major producer of electronic circuits and PCBs, but it is far from being a strong producer. There is still a big gap between China and developed countries in the PCB industry.
