[TI mmWave Radar Evaluation] 2+AWR1443 EVM board power-on and initial test [Copy link]

When using the AWR1443 EVM board, the easiest thing to do is to first perform power-on verification on the onboard software.

This can be done by simply using the software mmWave_Demo_Visualizer, which can test its basic functions more intuitively.

There are many versions of mmWave_Demo_Visualizer software, the latest one is V3.3.0; however, other netizens said that this version may have problems.

I am using version V2.1.0.

Note that this software needs to set the serial port first, and then set the setting data before it can be used;

That is, Options→Serial Port...

The mmWave_Demo_Visualizer software will automatically detect and set the serial port, basically intelligent:

Click OK. If the connection is normal, the lower right corner of the software will show "Connection is normal"

Now you can set the Config related content.

I'd like to ask something. Every time I export .dat data, I can't find any software to open it. I've tried Notepad, Word, etc., but they all show garbled characters. What should I do? I hope you can add me on QQ: 781811478. I am also working on this recently.   Details Published on 2022-4-10 17:22

When I first started using it, I couldn't connect in one go, and it always showed a connection exception:

This generally requires restarting the mmWave_Demo_Visualizer software. After the serial port settings are completed, it will be displayed in the lower right corner:

Press the reset button of the EVM board once, and you will:

The EVM board sends data through the console serial port, and the information window on the right shows:

******************************************

xWR14xx MMW Demo 02.01.00.04

******************************************

The normal connection state is also achieved.

Next, configure:

1. Select the corresponding onboard chip model:

is changed to:

2. Select the number of antennas to send and receive. There are 5 configurations in total. Except for the last one 1RX, 1TX, all others are OK.

4RX and 3TX are three-dimensional space detection methods; different

The others are all different in detection angle (range).

Note that every time you change this configuration, you need to restart the EVM board (I just press the reset button).

3. The rest can be configured according to the software default values:

Click SEND CONFIG TO MMWAVE DEVICE:

The data configuration is sent; at this time, the Polts display interface:

If you select 4RX,3TX as the 3D space detection method, the Polts display interface is:

The working current of the EVM board during the test is 0.29A, which is not too large. Judging from the change in load current, this EVM board can be used with 5V1A (5V1A).

Evaluation data:

1. The maximum number of detection points of the EVM board should be 7 points, as shown in the first figure below:

2. Response speed: Faster, but not the most stable (compared to LiDAR). If the Noise Profile function is turned on, it will be slightly better and will not have much effect on the response speed.

3. If the configuration selects 1RX, 1TX, the straight-line distance is detected instead of the range detection:

4. If the detection frequency is changed from the default 77-81G

changed to 76-77G:

will have better stability, as can be seen from the curve in the upper right corner:

And the CPU usage rate has also decreased, but the board's power supply current has not changed much.

In addition, here is a technical article on TI's millimeter-wave radar:

《Millimeter wave sensors make detection more accurate and efficient》

https://news.eeworld.com.cn/MEMS/ic483904.html

From the content of the article, the advantages of millimeter wave radar are mainly:

1. Short recognition distance: up to 4cm;

2. It has 3D point cloud detection (stereo detection) function and high privacy;

3. High reliability and the ability to detect objects (special items);

The conclusion of the article is reproduced as follows:

When used in automatic entrance system applications, TI mmWave sensors can intelligently reduce false detections, detect static objects, minimize system complexity and provide a convenient user experience. The sensor can operate in a variety of environmental conditions and track people and motion without capturing identifiable information, making it flexible for use in indoor and outdoor environments.

Hello, I would like to ask, when you run the web version of vis, have you burned the bin file, or can you download it directly after buying the board? I bought 1843 and want to run this directly, but it doesn't work. If it is convenient, can you add QQ 1142291205

Thanks!

Hello, I can run this visualizer. I want to ask whether the .dat data exported by this is the original ADC data or the data that has been processed for the target result. If I want to export the raw ADC data through the above development board, just one frame, how should I deal with it?

Hello, my board is AWR1443boost. I am testing it with power on, but it keeps showing "waiting for data"... The SDK2.1 platform is also equipped with xWR14xx. I would like to ask if anyone knows the reason.
