“The long wait is finally over.” Recently, the European Commission officially announced that from 2024, USB-C will become the common standard for electronic devices in the EU.

"This means better charging technology, less e-waste and easier finding the charger you need!" said the European Commission.

The interface is finally unified! The European Union announced that all electronic devices will use USB-C from next year

It is understood that USB-C will serve as a universal interface in the EU, allowing consumers to use any USB-C charger to charge any brand of device.

The EU requirement will apply to all handheld cell phones, tablets, digital cameras, headsets, portable speakers, handheld video games, e-readers, earbuds, keyboards, mice and portable navigation systems.

By 2026, this requirement will also apply to laptops.

The process of unifying the USB-C interface is not simple. According to reports, there were up to 30 kinds of charging interfaces on the market in 2009, a mixed bag. At that time, under the supervision of the European Commission, 14 mobile phone manufacturers, including Apple, adjusted this and gradually reduced it to USB-C, Lightning interface and Micro-USB.

Micro-USB is gradually being phased out due to technical reasons, so Apple's Lightning interface has become the biggest obstacle to a unified interface.

In September 2021, the European Commission formally proposed a proposal to use USB-C as a universal standard for all mobile devices in the EU, with a transition period of 24 months.

This move has been fiercely opposed by Apple: "We are worried that such strict management of chargers will only stifle innovation rather than encourage innovation, which in turn will harm the interests of consumers in Europe and around the world."

But his arms couldn't hold his thighs. On October 4, 2022, the European Parliament overwhelmingly passed a bill requiring that the charging interfaces of portable smart electronic devices such as mobile phones must be unified to USB Type-C.

In September this year, Apple announced that all iPhone 15 phones had switched to USB-C interfaces.

At this point, the USB-C interface dominates the world and the dust has settled.
