The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) announced that Apple has lost the case, and Masimo won the first round of U.S. trade cases regarding the ban on the import of Apple Watch. Apple infringes Masimo's patent on blood oxygen technology.
Masimo first sued Apple in 2020, claiming that Apple Watch infringed on 10 patents and allegedly stole trade secrets by hiring key personnel. Masimo then sued again in 2021, then specifically stated that the Apple Watch Series 6 should be banned from sale because the device infringed on five patents on blood oxygen measurement technology.
In October 2022, Apple also filed two lawsuits, accusing Masimo's W1 series of smart watches of infringing on multiple patents. Apple said it was during the previous lawsuit that Masimo "carefully studied Apple's intellectual property" and obtained confidential information.
In addition, the ITC also confirmed that Apple's Apple Watch models with electrocardiogram functions infringed on the patents of medical device manufacturer AliveCor.
