Beijing time, September 19th morning news, it was reported that the disassembly analysis showed that Apple iPhone 14 uses Qualcomm satellite chip, but additional Apple customized components are added to realize the most important new features of this phone.
Satellite communication is an important new feature of the iPhone 14 that can send emergency messages when WiFi and cellular data networks are unavailable.
Apple said earlier this month that the iPhone 14 includes new hardware to implement the emergency messaging service. Apple plans to enable the service in a software update in November. But the company did not disclose hardware details related to it.
iFixit's teardown analysis of the iPhone 14 Pro Max last Friday showed that the phone uses a Qualcomm X65 modem chip.
A Qualcomm chip provides the phone with 5G cellular connectivity, but it can also call on the Band n53 frequency used by Globalstar's satellites.
Globalstar reached a deal with Apple earlier this month for the iPhone to use 85% of its satellite network's communications capacity to enable the iPhone's new emergency communications feature.
Apple said in a statement that the company did use additional proprietary hardware and software to implement new messaging features in the iPhone 14.
Apple said: "iPhone 14 includes a custom frequency band component and new software designed entirely by Apple, which together enable Emergency SOS communication capabilities through new iPhone 14 models."
Qualcomm has not yet commented on this.
