On the morning of September 16, foreign media PBKreview disassembled the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The internal design looks similar to last year's iPhone 13 Pro Max, but with some details changed.
Like last year, this year's iPhone 14 Pro Max has an L-shaped battery that is slightly smaller than last year. The display assembly is positioned better and the camera is larger.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max has an additional layer of graphite film on the back of the screen to help dissipate heat.
Apple says it has made internal design updates to all iPhone 14 models to better manage heat. While this teardown doesn't clearly show what those changes are, we can see a metal plate covering the motherboard that may have been better optimized for heat dissipation. The graphite film on the back of the display also helps with heating.
This teardown also gives us a closer look at the changes to the screen hole. Apple placed the proximity sensor under the display to make room for the TrueDepth camera system.
The teardown also shows that the updated rear camera is different from the previous one.
