Apple has released iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 systems, and has released the first developer preview Beta.

Later this year, Apple will allow developers to create real-time lock screen notifications called "Live Events."

Live Activities are similar to the widgets on the iPhone home screen, but they are located at the bottom of the lock screen and can display dynamic and real-time information. During WWDC22, Apple demonstrated how to use Live Activities to track the distance of an Uber ride or the score of a current sports game.

Live events will be available to users via a software update later this year and will not be available with the initial release of iOS 16.

iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 are scheduled to be released in public beta in July, and developer preview betas are currently available. iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, and watchOS 9 will all be released publicly this fall.
