Keysight has received the first Spectrum Horizons experimental license from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to develop 6G technology in the sub-terahertz frequency band (above 95 GHz).

According to eeNews on the 14th, Keysight is currently the first company to obtain FCC licenses above 246GHz and 275.5GHz. Roger Nichols, the company's 5G and 6G project director, said: "Innovations in the sub-terahertz band will support use cases such as immersive telepresence, digital twins and reality extension, which are real and virtual environments and human-computer interactions generated by computer technology and wearable devices." "The FCC license enables Keysight to strengthen the company's commitment to 6G technology, enabling innovators to open up new areas of next-generation communication systems."

Keysight is a founding member of the mmWave Coalition, an organization of innovative companies working to remove regulatory barriers to the technology using frequencies ranging from 95 GHz to 450 GHz. Keysight has been actively involved in driving U.S. spectrum policy, including through the activities of the Coalition, resulting in multiple FCC licenses.

“Powering the next generation of wireless technology with sub-terahertz spectrum is one of the key enablers for merging the physical and digital worlds, which will lead to creative ways for people to interact with their surroundings,” said Kailash Narayanan, president of Keysight’s Communications Solutions Group. “Keysight has played an active role in multiple government-sponsored 6G projects around the world. These are key to creating momentum for technologies that will accelerate digitization and drive innovation for consumers, governments and businesses.”
