As TV panel prices enter a downward cycle, Samsung Display's (SDS) long-delayed LCD production withdrawal plan has finally been put on the agenda. It is said that it plans to sell some production line equipment to China's BOE and CSOT.
According to the Chosun Business Daily, SDC replaced the LCD TV panel production line with a 6G OLED (1500 x 1850mm) production line at its L7-2 plant and dismantled some large-size LCD panel equipment at the L8-1 plant. The freed-up space is used to accommodate a QD-OLED TV panel production line with a monthly output of 30,000 glass substrates.
It is reported that L8-1's QD-OLED panel production capacity is equivalent to 1 million 55-inch and 65-inch QD-OLED TVs per year. SDC plans to sell these LCD panel production equipment to BOE or CSOT, the latter two of which are currently the world's largest LCD panel manufacturers.
In addition, since L8-1 still has idle space, SDC will expand the production capacity of QD-OLED TV panels or establish an 8.5G OLED (2200 × 2500mm) production line in the field of IT applications.
