According to a new report from Nikkei Asia today, Apple has included screen maker BOE in its list of main suppliers of OLED panels for iPhone 13 models.
Multiple iPhone 12 rumors had suggested that BOE would supply some panels for the devices, but BOE later encountered major production issues. In 2020, it failed to deliver the first batch of OLED panels to Apple because the screens it manufactured failed verification tests.
Initially, BOE will only supply screens for the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 13 model. And it will share the order for iPhone 13 screens with Samsung. BOE's share is expected to account for 20% of the total order, but ideally, the Chinese company hopes to account for 40% of the order.
BOE previously only supplied OLEDs for repaired and refurbished iPhones. It also produces LCD screens for Apple iPads. As the report points out, adding manufacturers will give Apple greater bargaining power in negotiations with Korean suppliers.
