AMD CEO Lisa Su said on Monday (27th) that chip supply is expected to remain tight in the first half of next year, but the shortage will gradually ease in the second half of the year.

According to Juheng.com, Su Zifeng believes that the new production capacity previously planned by the foundry is expected to be opened in the next few months, which will help alleviate the shortage of laptop components and other microchips. Moreover, as more new production capacity is mass-produced, supply will gradually catch up with demand.

On the demand side, the new trend of working from home brought about by the epidemic has led to a surge in demand for electronic products such as PCs. Su Zifeng said that the epidemic has brought demand to a new level. Even after the economy restarts, supply and demand imbalances will still spread to industries such as automobiles, and demand for chips and laptop parts will remain high.

In addition, regarding AMD's acquisition of Xilinx for $35 billion, Su said that AMD expects to complete the acquisition by the end of the year and predicts that there may be more mergers and acquisitions in the semiconductor industry in the future. "Scale will be crucial if we want to achieve ambitious goals for the industry."
