GlobalWafers revealed at today's shareholders meeting that demand for silicon carbide (SiC) is stronger than expected, and substrates have been shipped in small quantities. At the same time, the company is continuing to accelerate production expansion and sample delivery.
According to Juheng.com, Xu Xiulan, chairman of GlobalWafers, said that the company's silicon carbide epitaxial wafers will be sent to customers for verification in the first half of next year. As a result, GlobalWafers' layout in the silicon carbide field will be further extended from substrates to epitaxial wafers.
According to the company, including the three-year long-term supply contract, GlobalWafers' backlog of orders is expected to exceed NT$100 billion. Although silicon carbide currently accounts for less than 1% of its revenue, the company is optimistic about its strong growth momentum in the future.
Regarding the problem of insufficient supply of production capacity, Xu Xiulan also said that the company expects to invest US$800 million to expand production capacity. The new production capacity is expected to be produced in 2022, and most of the production capacity will be produced after mid-2023.
