According to Taiwan media Economic Daily, in order to promote green manufacturing, TSMC has teamed up with Applied Materials and ancillary equipment suppliers to create the "iSystem Internet of Things Intelligent Energy-Saving Control System" for ancillary equipment in non-production areas.
TSMC pointed out that in addition to the continued development and construction of related applications at Fab 15B, Fab 18 will also begin to be introduced in 2021, and will be gradually extended to all 12-inch fabs in Taiwan, China. It is expected to save 82 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and reduce 84,600 metric tons of carbon emissions each year in the future, creating energy-saving benefits of NT$520 million.
According to the model of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ISTI) and the analysis based on the research of the U.S. Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, TSMC continues to promote green manufacturing and energy-efficient semiconductor technology. It is estimated that by 2030, for every kilowatt-hour of production electricity used by TSMC, 4 kilowatt-hours of electricity can be saved globally.
According to data analysis, the application of electronic products centered on semiconductors can help the world save about 10.7% of electricity in 2030, equivalent to 3.27 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity; if the proportion of semiconductors in electronic products and TSMC's market share are taken into account, the products produced by TSMC for its customers will help the world save 170 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2030, which is about four times more than the electricity used for production.
