On April 26, Goodix Technologies released its 2020 annual report stating that the company achieved comprehensive operating revenue of 6.687 billion yuan in 2020, an increase of 3.31% from the operating revenue of 6.473 billion yuan in 2019; the net profit attributable to the parent company's owners was 1.659 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 28.40%.
Goodix Technologies said that due to the combined impact of intensified market competition and the epidemic, the revenue growth rate has slowed down, while R&D investment has continued to increase, resulting in the company's net profit down 28.40% year-on-year.
Goodix Technology's R&D expenditure in 2020 was 1.754 billion yuan, an increase of 62.55% from 1.079 billion yuan in 2019. The proportion of R&D expenditure to operating income was 26.23%, an increase of 9.56 percentage points compared with 16.67% in 2019.
Goodix Technologies pointed out that the main reason for the increase in R&D expenses is the company's strategic layout for sustainable development in the future. It continues to increase investment in new technology research and product development, actively expands technology and market coverage, and lays a solid foundation for the company's long-term growth.
In 2020, Goodix Technology's innovative products and solutions became more diversified, and a number of competitive new products were gradually put into mass production and commercial use.
In terms of biometric products, the company continued to lead the under-screen optical fingerprint market in 2020 and maintained an absolute leading market share in the domestic market. Although the unit price has dropped due to intensified market competition, overall shipments have increased and the company's market share has continued to increase steadily. The company's ultra-thin under-screen optical fingerprint solution is widely used in the domestic market and has been adopted by more than 30 5G flagship models.
In terms of human-computer interaction products, the company's human-computer interaction products have achieved major technological breakthroughs and market development in mobile phones, PCs and tablets, as well as in-vehicle fields.
In the field of mobile phone touch, AMOLED touch solutions continue to be applied by mainstream terminal brands, with more than 20 commercial models in 2020; OLED soft screen touch technology has made a major breakthrough, and the touch solution supporting YOCTA soft screen has been commercialized on a large scale for the first time on the flagship models of leading customers. In the field of PC and tablet touch, a new generation of large-size touch products has been successfully developed, and cooperative relationships have been established with Lenovo and other more domestic and foreign customers; the touchpad business has grown rapidly; in the automotive field, the market share of automotive-grade touch products continues to increase, and they are widely used in mainstream models of many car manufacturers, with a cumulative shipment of nearly one million automotive-grade touch chips.
In terms of voice and audio products, in 2020, the company completed the acquisition and integration of NXP's VAS business, and established relevant R&D and product service teams in China, mainly providing innovative voice, audio and tactile solutions to the world's leading smart terminals and automobile manufacturers. Smart audio amplifier products continue to maintain their global leading position in shipments in the Android camp. CarVoice products have been successfully commercialized in many mainstream models and Tier 1 car manufacturers, and continue to promote innovation and design deployment in the field of voice applications in the automotive market.
In terms of IoT products, the company continues to invest and deploy in the four core technology areas of "physical perception, data processing, wireless transmission, and data security". Smart health wearable devices drive the rapid growth of the AIoT market. The company's series of health sensors have been widely used by first-tier brand customers with world-leading heart rate, blood oxygen, and ECG detection performance, with annual shipments exceeding 10 million pieces. In the TWS headset market, the company's industry-first in-ear detection and touch two-in-one chip has won the favor of major brand customers and has been fully commercialized by brand customers such as Huawei, OPPO, vivo, and OnePlus, with shipments exceeding 10 million pieces.
