In January this year, LG officially announced the rollable screen mobile phone LG Rollable at the CES2021 exhibition, and announced that it will launch mass production models this year.
Subsequently, during this period, there were constant reports that LG would sell its mobile phone business. Due to the long-term losses in the department, LG wanted to abandon this business directly, and the LG Rollable scroll screen mobile phone was also revealed to have stopped development.
However, there has been new progress recently, and LG's mobile phone business and scroll screen project may be retained.
LG Rollable has been certified
According to overseas media XDA, a new flexible screen under LG just obtained the Bluetooth SIG certification yesterday. It includes multiple models, including the rollable screen mobile phone LG Rollable. This means that LG is about to launch the mass-produced version of the rollable screen to the market.
According to the promotional video previously released by LG, LG Rollable is different from traditional folding-screen mobile phones. It can maintain the existing form of the mobile phone and achieve a larger screen without a folding structure. After the body size is shrunk, it can be changed from a tablet to the size of a smartphone.
The rollable screen phone is also considered by some to be a better "folding screen phone" because the rollable screen solution solves the two biggest shortcomings of folding screen phones.
One is the deformation problem caused by frequent folding of the screen, which will cause a very obvious crease in the center of the screen, which will not only affect the visual experience, but also greatly reduce the life of the screen. The rollable screen bends at a small angle to store the flexible screen inside the body, thus avoiding deformation of the screen caused by folding.
The second is that both the mechanical structure and the screen are placed inside the body. Current folding screen mobile phones need to use a hinge-like design to achieve the folding of the body and provide good support for the screen. Therefore, it is inevitable that foreign matter and dust will enter from the hinge. Samsung’s first generation of folding screen mobile phones was delayed for a long time due to this problem, and the scroll screen can avoid this problem.
In addition, there have been reports that LG has also developed a new design for the Rollable model, which can achieve a double curling effect on both sides. You can freely choose to unfold it on one side or both sides, and it can have three different sizes. When fully unfolded, you can get nearly twice the display screen.
