According to statistics from the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan, the total output value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry reached NT$3.22 trillion last year, an increase of 20.9% year-on-year, performing better than the international semiconductor industry.

In addition, the Industrial Technology Research Institute's International Strategy Development Institute of Industrial Science and Technology estimates that Taiwan's semiconductor industry output value this year is expected to continue to hit a record high, increasing by another 8.6%.

According to the International Institute of Technology, the output value of the IC design industry in Taiwan was NT$852.9 billion last year, up 23.1% year-on-year. The output value of the IC testing industry was NT$171.5 billion, up 11.1% year-on-year; the output value of the IC packaging industry was NT$377.5 billion, up 9% year-on-year, which was the sub-industry with the smallest growth rate.

The International Institute of Technology estimates that the output value of the IC design industry in Taiwan is expected to grow by 10.9% this year, making it the best performing sub-industry. The output value of the IC manufacturing industry will grow by about 8%, the output value of the IC testing industry will grow by 7.3%, and the output value of the IC packaging industry will grow by about 6.6%.

According to a survey result released by the Taiwan think tank, the Institute for International Science and Technology (ISTI), the world's semiconductor output value (including design) will reach about 57 trillion yen in 2020. In terms of the share of different countries and regions, the United States ranks first with 43%, Taiwan ranks second with 20%, and South Korea ranks third with 16%.

The background of the substantial growth in the semiconductor output value in Taiwan is that TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor foundry, has further advanced in technology and obtained a large number of orders from Apple and other companies in the United States. In addition, due to the impact of US sanctions on Chinese mainland companies such as Huawei Technologies, the production of semiconductors has further concentrated in Taiwan.
