A new survey shows that the majority of Apple TV+ users are currently on a free trial, but the majority do not plan to renew their subscriptions.

According to MoffetNathan's Q4 SVOD Tracker report, 62% of Apple TV+ users participated in the trial program in the fourth quarter of 2020. These promotional programs have been issued to buyers who purchase new Apple products since the launch of Apple TV+ in 2019.

The data shows that most users either do not plan to resubscribe when the trial ends or are unsure whether they will resubscribe. Specifically, 30% said they plan to renew their subscription, 29% said they would not resubscribe, and the rest were unsure.

These numbers lag behind Apple TV+ competitors, such as Disney+. The same survey showed that only 16% of Disney+ subscribers participated in the promotional program. Of those, 48% said they would resubscribe, and only 19% said they would not continue to subscribe.

One problem facing Apple TV+ may be a lack of content compared to other platforms, the report said. The service offers a total of 55 original films, while other video-on-demand services offer thousands of titles.

Apple has not yet disclosed the number of subscribers to Apple TV+.
