According to relevant bloggers, liquid lenses will be mass-produced and commercialized next year, mainly used in telephoto applications, and Huawei will also come up with corresponding products.
Huawei started exploring liquid lenses a long time ago. Huawei applied for a related invention patent on December 25, 2019, and announced it in April this year. It is reported that if liquid lenses are mass-produced and commercialized next year, the Huawei P50 series may be the first to use them. Liquid lenses have outstanding advantages, fast focusing speed, and can achieve millisecond-level focusing like the human eye, with a film success rate of almost 100%.
Liquid lenses may be unfamiliar to everyone. In fact, the ideal curve of the mirror is a parabola. Parabolas with different curvatures have different focal lengths. Traditional zoom lenses achieve zoom by adjusting the distance between two lenses with fixed focal lengths. There are several types of liquid lenses. The dielectric liquid lens used in mobile phones uses liquid to focus light and changes the shape of the liquid through different voltages to control imaging.
Huawei's technical solution can be used to drive the motor of the liquid lens to meet performance requirements such as autofocus and optical image stabilization, while improving the reliability of the motor under abnormal working conditions such as impact and falling.
