Earlier, Samsung Electronics received an order of 7.9 trillion won (about 6.7 billion U.S. dollars) from Verizon, a U.S. telecom operator, and will provide wireless communication solutions in the U.S. According to people familiar with the matter, Verizon has asked Samsung not to use Chinese-made components in this order.
According to South Korean media THE ELEC, Samsung Network previously used PCBs produced by Chinese companies Shenzhen South Circuit and Nanzi Electronics for its network toolkits, and South Korea's Daeduck Electronics was also one of the PCB suppliers.
People familiar with the matter pointed out that after the US sanctions on Huawei came into effect, Korean PCB companies were not very willing to supply Samsung Networks, mainly because the latter's order volume was relatively small. Samsung also tended to use cheaper PCBs from Chinese suppliers.
However, Verizon's request means that the two Chinese companies will no longer be able to supply Samsung's business in the United States.
It is reported that Isu Petasys, another Korean PCB company, aims to become an alternative supplier of Samsung PCBs. However, it should be noted that the Korean company will not be able to use its factories in China to supply Samsung.
