According to foreign media reports, Canada's new Conservative Party leader Erin O'Toole tweeted yesterday (18th) that he plans to ban Huawei from developing the country's 5G network.
Erin O'Toole tweeted, "Unlike (Prime Minister) Justin Trudeau, I do not trust the Chinese regime as an entity. If I were (prime minister), Huawei would be banned from 5G."
Earlier, Erin O'Toole said that if he was elected as Canadian Prime Minister in the next general election, he would implement a "Canada First" policy in economy and trade and would be tougher on China in diplomacy.
In addition, Erin O'Toole also tweeted on Thursday that among the "Five Eyes Alliance" intelligence sharing allies, Canada is the last country that has not excluded Huawei from participating in 5G development. As a result, Canada is facing increasing pressure from senior US officials to ban Huawei from participating in 5G construction.
