Beats launched Powerbeats 2 in June 2014, the same year the company was acquired by Apple for $3 billion and became a subsidiary of Apple.

But then it was revealed that Powerbeats 2 had quality control issues such as battery life and waterproof performance. Apple was then sued in court. The plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claimed that the functions of Powerbeats 2 promoted by Apple were incorrect, and the actual battery life and waterproof performance did not meet the advertised effects. In addition, Apple did not repair or replace the headphones with quality problems during the warranty period.

After several years of review, Apple recently reached an out-of-court settlement with the plaintiffs, and Apple will pay $9.75 million, which will be shared by all class members who submitted claim forms. However, Apple also stated that the settlement was reached to avoid higher litigation costs and denied all allegations.

Some users in China have also encountered the same quality control issues when using Powerbeats 2. According to the poster's statement, within less than two weeks after he bought Powerbetas 2 in 2015, the earphones had quality problems such as waterproofing, battery life, and wire control. After negotiating with Apple officials, the problem was still not resolved.
