Chipmaker Qualcomm is lobbying the U.S. government to lift restrictions on selling components to Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. after the Chinese company was added to the U.S. trade control "Entity List," foreign media reported on Saturday. The report cited a Qualcomm presentation saying Qualcomm wants to sell chips to Huawei and the Chinese company will include them in its 5G phones.
The document stated that through these restrictions, the United States handed over a market worth up to $8 billion a year to Qualcomm's foreign competitors.
Qualcomm did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Qualcomm settled a licensing dispute with Huawei last month, with Huawei set to pay Qualcomm $1.8 billion in back payments in the fourth fiscal quarter.
