A netizen with the Weibo account verified as "Economist Tao Yongyi" wrote a post discussing the fact that Tsinghua University and Peking University were not included in the US solid list.

Tao Yongyi said that Peking University and Tsinghua University are the most favored universities in the world and are like gods in the eyes of many young Chinese students. However, in major independent research and development projects in China, such as Beidou navigation, aerospace, J-20 fighter jets, domestic aircraft carriers, supercomputers, chip design and manufacturing, people from Peking University and Tsinghua University are rarely seen. Even when Huawei set up the Hongmeng ecosystem R&D class, it did not look for Tsinghua University, which has the strongest computer major, but chose to cooperate with Northwestern Polytechnical University.

Tao Yongyi further pointed out that it is not enough that they have not cultivated talents to build the motherland. They have also run companies that are not impressive. Peking University Founder has gone bankrupt and reorganized, and Tongfang shares are also half-dead. "When the United States opened the Entity List, it listed 13 companies at once, but Peking University and Tsinghua University were not included. Isn't it because they do not pose a threat to the United States at all?" Tao Yongyi said that to be fair, it is not that the professional level of these two universities is not good, "It's just that students at Peking University and Tsinghua University only consider TOEFL and GRE scores during their school years, and their only life goal is to work and live abroad. From the perspective of teaching and educating people, it really cannot be said to be a success."

Pan Jiutang, partner of Xiaomi Industrial Investment Department, disagreed with Tao Yongyi's view. Pan Jiutang said that different fields are like different mountains, so don't comment on unfamiliar fields casually. Taking China's chip industry as an example, Tsinghua alumni account for at least half of the country. Spreadtrum founder Chen Datong/Zhiguang Zhao Weiguo/Weilongjiang Yu Renrong/GigaDevice Zhu Yiming/GigaDevice Zhao Lixin/SMIC CEO Zhao Haijun/Zhuosheng Xu Zhihan/Broadcom Zhang Pengfei and others all came from Tsinghua. China's great progress in chips, computers, AI and other fields is due to the contributions of many Tsinghua returnees with ideals and feelings.
