According to the Economic Daily, SHARP announced today that the U.S. International Trade Commission has launched a "337 investigation" on May 21 (U.S. time) in response to patent infringement cases previously filed by Xianyang Rainbow Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., TPV Technology Limited and its subsidiaries, and VIZIO and other companies.
On April 21 this year, Sharp filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Xianyang Rainbow Optoelectronics, TPV Technology Limited and its subsidiaries, and VIZIO, Inc. The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) initiated an investigation under Section 337 of the U.S. Tariff Act on May 21, 2020 (U.S. time).
It is reported that Sharp stated to the ITC that it had properly filed a lawsuit in this case and requested the initiation of an investigation. In the lawsuit, Sharp also mentioned the company's significant and continuous investment in the US LCD market.
Sharp requested the ITC to protect its patents from infringement and to issue a limited exclusion order to prohibit Rainbow Optoelectronics' infringing products and products using Rainbow Optoelectronics' infringing panels from entering the United States. At the same time, it issued a cease and desist order to prohibit Rainbow Optoelectronics and other defendants from promoting and selling infringing equipment and products in the United States.
The ITC's final ruling is expected to be issued before the verdict in the Sharp patent infringement lawsuit.
