China Mobile will start centralized procurement of WiFi 6, aiming to reach 5 million households within this year

On May 17, China Mobile held a 5G Ecosystem Partner Conference with the theme of "New Infrastructure, New Consumption, New Momentum" through live video, and discussed with partners to promote the development of 5G, WiFi6 and other aspects.

Jian Qin, deputy general manager of China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd., said that in 2020, China Mobile will strengthen 5G network construction and build a "nationwide coverage, advanced technology, and excellent quality" 5G boutique network. By the end of 2020, 300,000 5G base stations will be built, and 5G commercial services will be fully realized in cities at the prefecture level and above across the country.

He said that China Mobile will accelerate the implementation of "dual gigabit" leadership in the WiFi6 industry, provide users with a "seamless" gigabit experience, and realize "using 5G packages to enjoy gigabit broadband."

Jian Qin also said that China Mobile will accelerate the promotion of home networks into the gigabit era and speed up the upgrade of Wi-Fi to WiFi6. It is expected to start WiFi6 centralized procurement in the second half of the year and develop intelligent networking services for 20 million households and 5 million WiFi6 users this year.

As 5G coverage becomes wider and wider, this year will be the first year of rapid growth for WiFi 6. In 2020, Wi-Fi 6 will also shine in the wireless market, with the size of the Chinese market alone exceeding RMB 1.4 billion.
