This afternoon (31st), the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA) held its annual meeting. TSIA Chairman and TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin pointed out that the international situation this year is unpredictable and the semiconductor industry is facing huge challenges, but with the development of new applications such as the Internet of Things and 5G, the semiconductor industry will have unlimited development vitality.
Liu Deyin said that over the past few decades, science and technology have developed rapidly, and various inventions have emerged one after another. Smartphones, social media, cloud services, big data, etc. have all had a significant impact on society. Semiconductors, as an indispensable and important role in them, have a profound impact on human life.
He further stated that with the rapid development of semiconductors, various innovative applications will penetrate into all aspects of people's lives, especially in the future era of the Internet of Things. The various applications brought by artificial intelligence and 5G will bring unlimited opportunities for the development of the semiconductor industry.
He pointed out that the progress of today's semiconductor industry is not limited to process miniaturization, but has also developed to 3D IC, cloud design, and collaborate with customers to innovate architecture. He also said that the progress of the semiconductor industry is no longer measured by line width and size, but should be measured by logic density or computing power as an indicator of progress.
He also said that Taiwan's semiconductor industry will continue to strengthen its R&D momentum, master key technologies, and establish an overall industrial chain, including IC design, manufacturing, packaging and testing, components and materials, to become an important global technology partner. This is the common goal of Taiwan's semiconductor industry. At the same time, he also pointed out that the development of the semiconductor industry needs to be supported by vast land, and Taiwan has a small land area and a large population, and is highly dependent on stable electricity and water supply, so he hopes that the government will introduce relevant policies to provide support.
