One More Thing did not appear at Apple's fall conference as scheduled, and the confusing Apple AR glasses team did not seem to survive. With the obvious reduction of AR-related content at the conference, the audience naturally began to worry about the short-term prospects of this technology. However, Daqri next door also recently jumped out to say that even in the purely industrial AR hardware products, it is not optimistic because they are about to go bankrupt.
Founded in 2010, Daqri is considered a top player in the field of AR headsets. As early as 2014, they launched a helmet product that can be used for AR display, and later updated it to a more radical version of glasses. At the same time, they also transferred some AR-related technologies to the fields of vehicle-mounted HUD, 3D printing, and medical imaging, which can be regarded as quite good results.
But after the peak, there have been frequent rumors of layoffs at Daqri since last year. Recently, some employees said that Daqri is still carrying out large-scale layoffs and has closed its Los Angeles headquarters. An internal email stated that Daqri will shut down its smart glasses cloud platform in September this year, which means that it will almost stop all online services.
Whether it is VR or AR, these two once popular concepts have encountered different degrees of cold reception in the past two years. Especially in terms of simply supporting industrial and commercial fields, Daqri still has to compete with rivals such as Microsoft HoloLens and Google Glass. After spending so much money for so many years, Daqri probably can't continue to spend.
