In his opening speech, Xu Wenwei, Huawei's director and president of the Strategic Research Institute, announced that Huawei has obtained more than 50 5G commercial contracts worldwide, including 28 from Europe, 11 from the Middle East, 6 from Asia Pacific, 4 from the Americas, and 1 from Africa; more than 200,000 5G base stations have been shipped, and nearly two-thirds of them are built by Huawei.
He also said that according to data at the end of 2018, China accounts for more than half of the world's 4G base stations, and China will also account for more than half of the world's 5G base stations. The future development of 5G depends on China.
In addition, Xu Wenwei said that with the advent of 5G, the limit of Shannon's law has been reached, and Moore's law has gradually reached its limit. Both the theoretical limit and the engineering limit need to break through the bottleneck, and Huawei must move from innovation 1.0 to innovation 2.0, from innovation to invention. The most important of these is universities, and Huawei will fund university research.
Earlier, at the end of June, Ding Yun, Huawei's executive director and president of the operator business unit, said that as of now, Huawei has obtained 50 5G commercial contracts worldwide, and the shipments of 5G equipment have exceeded 150,000 sets. These contracts come from South Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Finland and other countries. Two-thirds of the world's released 5G commercial networks are deployed by Huawei.
