Games undoubtedly play the biggest advantage of mobile phones as mobile terminals - portability, and many game manufacturers are competing to join the mobile game queue, which has made mobile phone manufacturers see the huge value of gaming phones as a market segment of smart phones. Mobile phone manufacturers are following suit, and hardware manufacturers are bound to take advantage of it. From Qualcomm's release of Snapdragon 855 plus last night, we can see that chip manufacturers are also salivating over the mobile game market.
Of course, mobile games have always been demanding on hardware. From Gameloft's earliest Warcraft-like RPG masterpiece Order & Chaos to the current Honor of Kings and Game for Peace, which have taken up a place in young people's mobile phone storage space, the picture quality of mobile games has increased exponentially, and the demand for hardware has also gradually increased. In this regard, Qualcomm and Apple first showed off their powerful GPU performance, while Huawei Kirin has GPU Turbo, which cleverly resolves the temporary hardware deficiencies.
Now, MediaTek has joined the war with the slogan "Game Core Born, Combat Power Awakened", and is about to launch the Helio G90 mobile phone chip designed specifically for gaming.
However, there is no specific information about this chip yet. MediaTek's most powerful chip is the Helio P90, which uses a 12nm process. The CPU contains two Cortex A75 (2.2GHz) and six Cortex A55 (2.0GHz). The GPU uses Imagination's IMG 9XM-HP8 GPU (Powervr gm9446) with a frequency of 970MHz, which is a significant improvement over the previously used Mali-G72 MP3.
Since the G90 is designed for gaming, its GPU performance will inevitably be greatly upgraded based on the P90, and the CPU performance will also be upgraded. Given that MediaTek has stated that it will launch a flagship mobile processor this year that uses a 7nm process and supports 5G networks, and that most current gaming phones are benchmarked against the highest-end processors from major chip manufacturers, we have reason to infer that the G90 will use a 7nm process and even support 5G networks.
However, MediaTek has never participated in the competition for high-end chips. Considering its positioning, the G90 should not directly compete with the Snapdragon 855, and is expected to mainly target the mid-range mobile phone market.
