How much data will a 5G network phone consume per month?

On June 6, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially issued 5G commercial licenses to the three major operators, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom and the newly added China Broadcasting Corporation, marking the official entry of China into the first year of 5G. For ordinary consumers, whether 5G charges are more expensive than 4G has become the most realistic question.

In addition, because 5G networks are 10 times faster than 4G networks, and with the trend of lower data traffic charges, people's use of data will also increase dramatically.

Previously, Zhu Hanwu, deputy general manager of Guangdong Mobile, said that the DOU (average mobile Internet access traffic per household) under the 5G network is at least 60G, and in reality it is even higher than this. The main reason is that with faster network speeds, users' corresponding usage needs will increase.

South Korea has launched 5G commercial use since December 2018. Judging from the situation after commercial use, it basically conforms to this development trend. According to statistics from the Ministry of Science and Information Technology of South Korea, the average data usage of each 5G user is as high as 22.4GB, while the average 4G user in the same period used 8.37GB. The data usage of 5G is about 2.7 times that of 4G, and this usage is still increasing rapidly.

According to the economic operation of the communications industry from January to April 2019 released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, DOU in April reached 7.32GB, a year-on-year increase of 110.2%. It is conceivable that after 5G is officially put into commercial use, it is almost certain that the average monthly traffic will exceed 20GB.

A telecom analyst believes that the 5G package will be officially launched in July or August, and the price of the 5G package will not be higher than the current 4G package. He said that the 5G package may take two forms: one is to use the previous 4G package and convert the traffic in the package into 5G traffic; the other is for users to continue to use the current 4G package and give away some 5G traffic.
