British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said on Monday local time that Britain will closely monitor the potential risks of the United States using Huawei equipment in its 5G networks, while also stressing that it will not rely too much on technology from third countries.
In an interview with the BBC, Jeremy Hunt said that we will listen carefully to the opinions of the United States and pay attention to everything the United States says.
It is understood that US President Trump will pay a state visit to the UK from the 3rd to the 5th of this month. Before leaving, Trump mentioned Huawei again in an interview with the British Sunday Times, saying that he would urge the UK to be careful about allowing Huawei to participate in its 5G network construction, and said that he was confident that the British government would give up using Huawei equipment.
The Financial Times stated on May 31 that if the British government allows Huawei to participate in the country's 5G network construction, Trump will threaten to restrict intelligence sharing with the UK, and he is ready to raise objections personally.
Jeremy Hunt emphasized, "We have not made a final decision yet, but we know very clearly that we should ensure the security of the technology and ensure that there are no backdoors. At the same time, strategically, we will not be overly dependent on others for important technologies."
It can be said that this statement once again emphasized the UK's position on Huawei equipment, and is in line with its consistent principle, that is, to use Huawei equipment on "non-core" equipment, but not to completely ban Huawei equipment.
