Picocom and Broadcom achieve small cell BBU LTE software docking and complete full-rate and super-capacity commercial testing
The latest docking and optimization will provide strong support for the development of telecom-grade 4G+5G dual-mode small base stations
Hangzhou, China - February 2023 - Picocom, a provider of 5G small cell baseband chips and telecom-grade software, announced that its PC802, the industry's first 4G/5G small cell baseband SoC designed to meet standards including Open RAN, has completed docking with Broadcom's LTE BBU software. The integrated solution achieved the expected single-user peak and multi-user performance levels and completed 72 hours of commercial testing. This move once again confirms that PC802 can provide high-performance, high-flexibility, high-maturity and low-power baseband processing solutions, and provides strong support for the development of telecom-grade 4G+5G dual-mode small cells.
Boweitong (Chengdu) Technology Co., Ltd. is a technology company focusing on small base station products and solutions for mobile communications. The LTE BBU software developed by the company is connected to the PC802 4G/5G small base station baseband SoC chip adopted and verified by many software and hardware partners of Picocom through the FAPI interface that complies with the SCF standard. This enables perfect integration between the L2+ upper layer BBU software and the L1 physical layer, and stably and efficiently supports end-to-end processing of uplink and downlink peak data.
PC802 not only has powerful and efficient baseband processing capabilities, but also supports a variety of important standard interfaces to drive open networks and support various application scenarios. The actual test data of this docking shows that the solution can stably achieve an uplink throughput of 75Mbps and a downlink throughput of 150Mbps in LTE-FDD cells; it can stably achieve an uplink throughput of 15Mbps and a downlink throughput of 112Mbps in TD-LTE cells (subframe ratio 2, special subframe ratio 10:2:2); its multi-user capacity has reached 400 activated and 1200 connected users, far exceeding the 128 activated and 384 connected users of the small base station industry standard.
Picochip Microelectronics (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. said: "We are very pleased to cooperate with Broadcom to achieve high-quality docking between our PC802 small base station baseband SoC chip and Broadcom LTE BBU software; in addition, we have also worked together to optimize the solution, not only to achieve a full-rate, ultra-capacity LTE small base station solution, but also to pass a 72-hour long-term stability test, proving that the solution can meet telecom-grade reliability requirements."
Bowentong (Chengdu) Technology Co., Ltd. Said: "This docking, optimization and commercial testing is based on products that have been fully technically tested and market-proven by both parties. The results are exciting and give everyone confidence in the future application prospects. The high-quality docking of Bowentong's mature commercial LTE BBU software and the powerful Picochip small base station baseband SoC chip PC802 reflects the deep technical accumulation of Bowentong and Picochip, as well as the openness, high maturity and high competitiveness of both parties' products."
Subsequently, the two parties will develop high-performance, highly competitive commercial 4G and 4G+5G dual-mode small base station systems based on their respective strengths and current docking results, and use complete, highly optimized solutions to help small base station developers quickly and efficiently build system equipment that meets industry specifications and application market needs.
